Izumi Sato is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, trained with Linda McGrath at Yoga Source of Los Gatos, holds an MA in Dance education from the University of Hawai'i and studied Public speaking at Stanford University.

Izumi's first met with yoga in India 20 years ago. During and after her undergraduate study of Cultural Anthropology in Kyoto, Japan, Izumi spent 7 years in Bangalore and New Delhi studying culture, philosophy, and dance on an Indian government scholarship. She had the great fortune of learning and teaching Bharatanatyam, a precise Indian classical dance, with Padma Bhushan Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan. On a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship, Izumi graduated the University of Hawai'i with a Master Degree in dance with a focus on education. She has taught at University of Hawaii, University of Utah, UC Santa Cruz, Mid-Pacific Institute, and Springbridge International School.

20 years of performing dance makes Izumi’s style of yoga an elegant flow of Vinyasa choreographed with breath as the rhythm. For Izumi, yoga practice is universal prayer for peace beyond nations, religions and physical self.

Izumi is dedicated to practicing and teaching yoga as a means of cultivating awareness of self, others and community: care, respect, and hope.

Izumi believes in safety first yoga practice. She suggests her students begin with learning their alignment and limitations to make their practice safe and then to take their practice beyond physical awareness.
